Lenovo Z5s, Z5 Pro launched: Key specs, features, price and everything you need to know

Lenovo on Tuesday announced a few new smartphones in China. The first is a mid-range Z5s, which has been in the news for a few weeks now. This phone highlights a waterdrop display and Snapdragon 710 chipset along with a triple camera system. The company then announced its a souped up Z5 Pro that comes with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and is also the world’s first phone to come with 12GB of RAM.

The Z5s will be shipping ahead of the Z5 Pro. The former falls in the mid-range segment, while the latter is the company’s most premium offering yet. The Z5 Pro is a top-end version of the current Z5 Pro. It is essentially the company’s first flagship for 2019 and it is set to go on sale in January, 2019. Here’s everything you need to know about the two new Lenovo smartphones.

Lenovo Z5s and Z5 Pro specifications

Display: The Lenovo Z5s sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ (1080×2340) display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Z5 Pro gets a slightly bigger 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display

Processor: The Z5s gets a 2.2Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset, while the Z5 Pro rocks a next-gen 2.84GHz Snapdragon 855 chipset

RAM: The Z5s comes in 4GB and 6GB RAM options. The Z5 Pro starts with 6GB of RAM and goes all the way up to 12GB of RAM

Internal storage: The mid-range Z5s is offered with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. The Z5 Pro gets 128GB, 256GB and 512GB of internal storage options depending on the RAM variant

Rear camera: The Z5s offers a triple camera setup that includes a 16MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture and 2x optical zoom, and a third 5MP sensor for depth shots. The Z5 Pro gets a dual camera setup with a 24MP + 16MP configuration, both coming with f/1.8 aperture

Front camera: The Z5s houses a 16MP front-facing camera under the notch. The Z5 Pro has a slider mechanism that houses two selfie cameras with a 16MP + 8MP configuration

Battery: The Lenovo Z5s houses a 3,300mAh battery while the premium Z5 Pro houses a marginally bigger 3,350mAh battery

Software: Both the phones ship with Android 9 Pie with ZUI 10 on top

Lenovo Z5s and Z5 Pro features

— Both the phones offer premium design, but they differ in some ways. The Z5s is the company’s first smartphone with a waterdrop display. This means it gets a droplet style notch on top of the display. It gets a 2.5D glass on the front and back as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.It comes in three colours – Honey Orange, Gray and Titanium Crystal Blue. The Z5 Pro (2019) is pretty identical to the current Z5 Pro – it gets a bezel-less display with no notch and a slider mechanism that houses the front cameras. It gets a 3D curved glass on the back that comes in a Carbon Black colour with carbon fiber finish under the glass.

— The Z5s highlights a triple camera system on the back much like the Galaxy A7 (2018). The 16MP + 8MP + 5MP system promises lossless image quality thanks to an AI-powered processor. The phone promises to deliver great quality photos in daylight and low-light scenarios.

— The Z5s also gets an octa-core Snapdragon 710 AIE Turbo chipset, which the company says has been optimised for improved gaming experience with improved frame rate and reduced latency. The phone also offers a Game Turbo mode that bumps up gaming performance and graphics.

— The Z5 Pro, on the other hand, is the company’s most high-end offering yet. Notably, it is the first smartphone to come with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and 12GB of RAM. This is a 2.84GHz octa-core chipset that is based on qa 7nm process. The processor will deliver improved performance and power efficiency compared to its predecessor.

— Like the current Z5 Pro, the 2019 model also comes with a near bezel-less display and no notch. The phone gets a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel that offers over 95 per cent screen-to-body ratio and HDR 10 support.

Lenovo Z5s and Z5 Pro price and availability

The Lenovo Z5s has a starting price of CNY 1398 (approx Rs 14,430) which is for the base model with a 4GB + 64GB configuration. The 6GB + 64GB and 6GB +128GB options have been priced at CNY 1598 (approx Rs 16,500) and CNY 1898 (approx Rs 19,500), respectively. This phone will go on sale in China later this month.

The Z5 Pro comes in four variants. The base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage has been priced at CNY 2698 (approx Rs 27,800). The 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB variants are priced at CNY 2998 (approx Rs 30,900), CNY 3998 (approx Rs 41,200) and CNY 4398 (approx Rs 45,300), respectively. This phone will start shipping in January and there is no word yet on its global availability.
